Borås, Borås-a Quick Visit to Sweden’s Textile City
What can one say about Borås? I’ve known about Borås since I was little, but it’s not a place I’ve ever really had a reason to visit. Why did I know about it? Well, in the 80s and 90s, it was very popular to order clothes from mail-order companies that were based in Borås. Something that is completely normal nowadays, but felt quite different back then
The reason why I had the opportunity to visit Borås this year, was because of my involvement with the Swedish Federation of Business Owners. The organisation held its annual congress here, bringing together representatives from all over Sweden. Since this is also an election year, several political parties were present during the event to explain what they intend to do for business owners across the country. During the congress, we also decided on the organization’s future direction and priorities, and it was interesting to be part of that process.
I stayed at Quality Hotel Grand Borås, while the congress itself took place at Borås Congress. Since the hotel was about a 15-minute walk from the venue, I got to enjoy a lovely morning walk along the Viskan River every day before arriving at the congress.
Borås seems to be known for its rainy weather, but we happened to have picked some really beautiful, sunny days! Unfortunately, we didn’t have much time to explore the city beyond the congress.
So, the next time I’m passing through Borås, I’ll try to learn more about its textile history, as Borås is known as Sweden’s textile city. And perhaps I’ll also take some time to check out the city’s street art. But we’ll see!
